After having a week off to recuperate, Matthew Stafford is prepared to play again for the Los Angeles Rams.
Head coach Sean McVay announced on Monday that Stafford, who missed the Los Angeles Rams’ most recent game because of a thumb injury, is anticipated to play against the Seattle Seahawks on Sunday. https://x.com/RamsNFL/status/1724200397164953923?s=20
Matthew Stafford demonstrated his ability to grip and throw the ball during Monday’s individual drills at practice, which is encouraging that his injury has sufficiently healed for him to play, according to McVay.
The 35-year-old quarterback left the game in the third quarter of the Rams’ Week 8 loss to the Cowboys after a defender touched his thumb during an incomplete pass. Later, it was revealed that Stafford had sprained his thumb’s UCL on his throwing hand, and despite the initial assessment that he would be fine, he was unable to play in the Rams’ Week 9 match due to the injury.
The Rams were desperate to find a capable starter while Stafford was sidelined, so his return could not come soon enough. After Stafford was declared out due to the injury, Brett Rypien entered the game in relief and went on to lead the team against the Packers. The fourth-year player fumbled the ball and completed 130 yards of throwing with one interception in the defeat to Green Bay.
Following that, Carson Wentz, a free agent quarterback, was signed by the Rams to replace Rypien as the team’s backup quarterback. Based on McVay’s comments on Monday, it appears Wentz won’t have to start for the Rams against Seattle in Week 11.
Stafford had thrown for 2,070 yards and eight touchdowns in eight games prior to missing time due to the injury, which was an improvement over his 2022 numbers despite battling injuries. Stafford is expected to make his comeback to the field after missing just one start, in contrast to the previous season when he was sidelined after nine games due to a spinal cord contusion, a 15-year veteran.
The Rams are now 3-6 and behind in the NFC West with half of the season left.. However, L.A. will be hoping that Stafford’s return can ignite something, beginning this Sunday against a team that is ahead of them in the division standings.
