Watson started at quarterback for the first three games of the season, but he was sidelined for Cleveland’s 28-3 loss to the Ravens in Week 4. In that game, Dorian Thompson-Robinson, a rookie quarterback, was starting quarterback and completed 19 of 36 passes for 121 yards and three interceptions.

After the team’s Week 5 bye, the Browns decided to sign quarterback PJ Walker, who was given the starting nod. Walker took over against Indianapolis early in the game after starting against the 49ers and Seahawks.

According to NFL Network’s Tom Pelissero, Watson wished to continue playing despite his injuries, but medical professionals warned him that if he was struck in the same spot again, his shoulder “may fall apart.”

In addition to playing through an ankle injury sustained in the first half, Deshaun Watson also sustained a broken shoulder. Now, PJ Walker is their starting QB.

Browns players who got season ending injuries include QB Deshaun Watson, RB Nick Chubb and OT Jack Conklin.

The AFC North was competing to be the first division with every team qualified for the postseason.. Now, it will be up to quarterback PJ Walker of the Browns to lead Cleveland there.

The Browns will now need to rely even more on their excellent defense, which ranks first in the NFL, with Deshaun Watson out for the entire campaign, which ranks:
🏈First in yards allowed (242.7)
🏈First in passing yards allowed (151.1)
🏈Fourth in points allowed (16.9)
🏈Tied for fourth in sacks (30) and tied for fifth in interceptions (9).
