Hong Kong Open returned to Hong Kong Golf Club after 4 years of hiatus with some star power from LIV Golf tour.
The field was stacked with the players like Cam Smith, the 2022 British Open winner and one time Masters Champion Patrick Reed. The Last season LIV golf Individual Champion Talor Gooch is also in the race to win Hong Kong Open. There are many young emerging future stars with the likes of Andy Ogletree and Pachara khongwatmai who have been performing on Asian Tour quite regularly. Andy Ogletree, who earned a 2024 LIV roster spot by winning Asian Tour’s International Series, are all teeing it up as well.
In Round one Cam smith and Euginio Chacarra performed exceptionally well and carded 63 to finish at top. Both were at T1 followed by Yubin Jang and Gunn Charoenkul at T2 with the score of 6 under par. Andy Ogletree and Pachara were also in the hunt with red figures with the score of 5 under par at the end of Round one.
Round two started very Early for Cam smith which he mentioned as
“Early alarm this morning, the body quite wasn’t working”
He claimed it was bit Scrappy start for him but still he is happy to shot three or four under par. Hoped that he will keep improving.
Aussie backed up his opening 63 with a four-under 66 to share second place with South Korean Bae (63). Sangmoon Bae has been two times winner on PGA tour before going for 2 years of mandatory Military Service.
The star of the Round 2 was Pachara Khongwatmai aka ‘diamond’, who gave a gem of performance and shot 7 under par in round 2 to climb at the top of Leaderboard with the total of 12 under par score. He shot 10 birdies and 3 bogeys to transcend at top. The Thai golfer is very confident on his game.
“My game is better game right now”
The other noticeable performances included Euginio Chacarra at T9 with 9 under par score, one time major champion Graeme Mcdowell who is also in hunt with 8 under par (T11,) followed by Patrick Reed at T12 with 7 under par.

The Asian tour needs to get its share of hype I believe with field having such stars performers. Golf is all about PGA tour and DP World Tour nowadays. The Asian fans would also be really happy to see their fields stacked with likes of some Major winners and top players from the world which is finally happening. It’s always fun to see players like Cam smith play around and get some wins.
