Philadelphia 76ers have traded guard James Harden to the Los Angeles Clippers

James Harden’s request has been granted.

The Philadelphia 76ers have agreed on a trade to send guard James Harden to the LA Clippers, sources told ESPN’s Adrian Wojnarowski

Harden requested a trade in June when he opted into his $35.6 million player option for the 2023-24 season, and he called Philadelphia 76ers president of basketball operations Daryl Morey “a liar” multiple times during a promotional appearance in China in August.

Harden also missed the team practice in pre season game which was reported in media https://x.com/sportscorner921/status/1715051874909327507?s=20

He has yet to play for Philadelphia this season, though he was on the bench with his teammates during Sunday’s game, wearing jeans and a green hoodie, after participating in the 76ers’ pregame walkthrough and video session.

The Sixers are acquiring Marcus Morris, Nicolas Batum, Robert Covington, KJ Martin, multiple draft picks and a pick swap for James Harden, PJ Tucker and Filip Petrusev, according to ESPN. The 76ers are waiving veteran guard Danny Green. Philadelphia 76ers needed to create the roster spot to complete the trade with the Clippers.

The Clippers are sending the Sixers a 2028 unprotected first-round pick, two second-round picks and a pick swap, according to ESPN. The Clippers are also routing the 76ers an additional future first-round pick from a third team.

Clippers are 2-1 at the start of this season. Clippers were already contenting to land big stars this off season by chasing Damian Lillard but could not get him. This move has made their roster star studded already with super stars Russell Westbrook, Kawhi Leonard and Paul George in the starting line up.

Harden has pushed his way out of teams before. This is not the first time. In 2020, he asked the Rockets for a trade and shortly after, he signed with the Brooklyn Nets. In recent years, the 76ers have also had to handle another prominent trade request. Ben Simmons, the former first overall pick, demanded a trade in August 2021 and was eventually traded to the Nets in January 2022.
