Christian McCaffrey, the running back for the San Francisco 49ers, recently made history in the team record books once more, as his club achieved a historic victory over the rival Seattle Seahawks in Seattle.

However, McCaffrey’s main thought following his team’s 31-13 beating of Seattle on Thursday night and breaking the franchise record for rushing touchdowns in a season was the postgame meal he and his teammates shared on Lumen Field.

“It was fantastic,” McCaffrey remarked. “It was surprisingly delicious turkey as well. The turkey was quite tasty and perfectly cooked, however I’m not sure how they managed to keep everything hot. Even though it was 20 minutes after the game, it wasn’t at all dry and was, as I mentioned, still hot.”

far while McCaffrey and his six teammates may have thought hot turkey was great, what they accomplished on Thursday night—taking command of the NFC West division—was far more remarkable.https://x.com/49ers/status/1727912786985173403?s=20

First of all, after more than ten years of dominance by the Seahawks, the Niners appear to have finally broken through. The Niners have defeated the Seahawks in Seattle for the second year in a row, including Thursday night’s victory—a feat the team has never accomplished in franchise history. Their biggest victory margin at Seattle since a 31-point triumph in 1988 was 18 points.

In addition, it became San Francisco 49ers fourth straight victory (including playoffs) over the NFC West-leading Seahawks, who had prevailed in 17 of their previous 21 games dating back to 2012.

Perhaps the most agonizing for Niners supporters with long memories was when the Seahawks ate turkey on midfield of the newly opened Levi’s Stadium in 2014. Even though there aren’t many Niners players who have experienced those previous losses to Seattle, they understand the significance of finally banishing some of those ghosts.

Linebacker Fred Warner stated, “A win against that team, they play us so hard every single time we play ’em.” “It feels like a great win for us, no matter the result. And it’s in a major circumstance, out on the road in the division.”

McCaffrey gained two touchdowns on 19 attempts for 114 yards toward the end of the game on Thursday. He also added 25 yards via five receptions. During the team’s video session the following week, coach Kyle Shanahan will use the second touchdown as the centerpiece of his highlight reel.

With 5:19 remaining in the first half, McCaffrey received a pitch to the left and attempted to cut it inside on first-and-goal at Seattle’s 8. McCaffrey waited patiently for a small window of space to run, but a wall of humanity stood in his way of reaching the end zone. When it did (barely) open, he found a way through the smallest of openings, forced two tacklers to miss, and then carried several defenders into the end zone for an eight-yard touchdown.

McCaffrey’s 11th rushing touchdown of the year broke a tie with six other Niners, making it the most by a Niner in team history in a season. In addition, it was McCaffrey’s 16th total touchdown of the season, leading the league. Only Terrell Owens and Jerry Rice have ever scored as many touchdowns in a single season for the San Francisco 49ers.

Shanahan said, “It was fantastic.” “I didn’t anticipate that it would be there. He brought it to life even if it didn’t seem like calls that should have scored.”

When McCaffrey joined the Niners in October of last season, he has 29 touchdowns from scrimmage. In NFL history, only two players have scored more in their first 25 games (including playoffs) with a new team: Eagles’ Steve Van Buren (30) and Chicago’s Gale Sayers (31).

Quarterback Brock Purdy described the man as “a dog.” You never know when he’s going to give up or find a way out of a situation. It doesn’t really surprise me that he did that. However, I also find that kind of stuff inspiring. When we most need it, it provides the offensive with a spark and vitality.”

In the upcoming weeks, the 49ers expect to require a great deal more of it. With the tiebreaker in hand, they lead the Seahawks by two games in the NFC West at 8-3. On December 10, the teams square off at Levi’s Stadium, where there’s a chance the 49ers win the division that day.

They now have a brief vacation to recuperate and get ready for their highly anticipated NFC Championship Game rematch with the Eagles in Philadelphia on December 3 before they can handle all of that.

After Thursday’s victory, though, nobody was quite prepared to discuss that matchup. There was still turkey to be had, after all, and a win over a long-time adversary to rejoice over.

Warner remarked, “That was an unforgettable moment.” “Going into this game, I obviously wanted us to win because you don’t get to eat turkey if you lose on their field.”
